Žen / persons from porlock / Haiku Garden – Mladinin oder

Udarni četrtek bo pripadel psihedeličnim melodijam, vesoljskim rifom in zasanjanim napevom …

Avdiovizualna zasedba Žen, ustanovljena leta 2010 v Zagrebu, v živo združuje zapletene aranžmaje in zatopljene vizualije, s tem pa ustvarja popolnoma avtentično shoegaze post-rock izkušnjo. Skupina igrivo razčlenjuje spolne stereotipe in povezuje meje avdio ter vizualne umetnosti, skozi vokalne harmonije, potopljene v progresivno sožitje kitar, basa, bobnov in klaviatur.

Svoji psihoaktivni glasbeni zmesi so dodali nalezljive stonerske rife in rokerske vrhunce z zasanjanim vokalom.

Žen playfully dissects gender stereotypes and connects the boundaries of audio and visual art, evoking journeys through vocal harmonization submerged in a progressive symbiosis of guitar, bass, drums and synths. If we were to try to define them by genre, the closest we would get is a complex form of indie-rock, informed by various style and genre characteristics ranging from post-rock to shoegaze, math-rock and experimental electronics. Their debut album, I onda je sve počelo, was released in May 2013 under the queer feminist label Unrecords from Vienna, A. Žen was also included in several compilations: Bistro na rubu šume vol.2, Kompot berba 2013, and !OPASNA Ženska Muzika. The Balkan Under the Radar vol.2: The Black Wave compilation, contained a remix of the song Iskrenost je posebna (Andrea Giordani remix). Žen has played numerous concerts and gained a loyal audience in the wider region. They’ve played in Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, France, Italy, Denmark and Sweden. In the beginning of 2017 they joined forces with Moonlee Records and announced their 3rd album in autumn.

Persons from porlock, in literature depicted as the ”unwelcome visitors who interrupt the creative process”, have been interrupting the Slovenian music scene since the 15th club marathon of Radio Študent. The young quartet from Ljubljana created their own piece of irony and put it on the map with their debut album “Things People Don’t Like”, voted the best Slovenian album of 2016 by Radio Študent.

Haiku Garden is a four-piece band from Ljubljana, Slovenia, formed in 2014. Their sound revolves around shoegaze and dreampop, its huge fuzzy guitar tones and dreamy psychedelic vocal harmonies inducing hallucinations in even the most sober listener. After their first few shows as opening acts for bands like VVhile and Mile Me Deaf, Haiku Garden have gained recognition through Klubski maraton Radia Študent tour which had them play in clubs all across Slovenia in autumn 2015. January 2016 marked the start of recording the band’s debut EP entitled ‘Waver’ which was then released through the renowned local indie label KAPA Records on the 12th of May. The release party was held in a totally packed club Gala hala at Metelkova in Ljubljana. The band continued to play club shows in support of the EP release all across the country as well as playing various festivals like Trnje Fest, INmusicMENT, Barakafest, Trnfest, and Črnfest. Haiku Garden has played outside its country a few times; they opened for the American band King Who in Green Room, later they played at Velvet Festival on the island of Krk and also a well-received show in Belgrade. In 2016 Haiku played a show at Ment festival in Ljubljana.
